How to Win Swoopo Auctions

Posted by admin

There are several “pay to bid” auction sites out there these days. What is the best way to score the items on those sites?

Here’s a link describing the sort of auction going on at these sites and why it’s a loser for everyone involved but the company running the auction:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dollar_auction

Also notice that the structure of wins/losses on these auctions are similar to that of a lottery, bingo, or a poker tournament: one person wins and everyone else loses. So why is the payoff so much less for the winner than in a lottery or bingo? Because the company is keeping all the extra money. The odds to win are no better than a lottery but the payoff is WAY less! The risk/reward here is so poor on these auctions you should think twice before participating.

    Hi, I just wanted …
Hi, I just wanted to thank you for saving me time and trouble. I was on the same way as you’ve just described. I started to write a script in c# to monitor these auctions and then decided to do a search and found your video. So thanks, I am letting it go now. You can go sleep tonight feeling better, your video actually helped someone.
Well, a fool and his money are soon parted :)

    Also i didnt mean …
Also i didnt mean that they would always win the auction. They would keep going incase of server lag to keep bumping the price up till they see fit to stop.

    Maybe I am over …
Maybe I am over cautious these days on companys on the net. But as a company with certain T&C they can do as they please.

    When I talk about …
When I talk about bots I mean bots that the customers are using. I was using one for example to gather than data for this video. I doubt the company itself wins its own auctions… if that came out it would end the company and why risk killing their entire company that way when they make so much regardless?

    Hi there MystryBox …
    Hi there MystryBox and readers.
I recently had a look on “swoopo”, I have seen the lag you talk about and ofc 100% agree with bots working on behalf of the company. I wanted to just illistrate the money this company must make.
2p bid at £130.00, This means that 6500 bids. Lets say that 50% are infact legit that is a revenue of £1625.00 (50p per bid). And ofc if a bot wins? swoopo puts the item back up. Good profit. I would like to see T&C of the company and a investigation of some kind.

    Oh wow thank you …
Oh wow thank you for letting me know ahead of time, but then why do people do this if they are losing money and only one person wins? thats pretty stupid…..

  16. MystryBox says:

    You buy bids in …
You buy bids in advance. You do not get that money back. Only 1 person who bids on an item will win it at a discount and there are hundreds of people bidding. Odds on being the winner are not good; odds on losing the money for your bids are assured.

lets say i bid in …
lets say i bid in an apple macbook pro and i dont win the product will i still have to pay for the amount i bid? please help me understand what swoopo is and how it works

    i have bought …
i have bought around 30 things of swoopo and have made up on thosands from it
all you need is atleast 300 bids and you can get a 50 inch tv for 200 pounds sometimes
then sell it for 1100 pounds

  20. manningfan18x says:

    Yeah, I have been …
Yeah, I have been watching swoopo, and for some people it works out great, others are idiots and spend tons in bids to get an item. They have started a new thing that if you lose though, you can buy the item from them and use the number of bids that you used towords the item. I saw a macbook pro sell for 30 bucks.

  23. MystryBox says:

    No, I didn’t win …
No, I didn’t win anything and spent more than enough running my various experiments to ever want to try again.

I have no idea how to lag a server.

  24. types10001 says:

    :( damn.

    btw have …
    :( damn.

btw have you ever won anything off the site?

also strictly hypothetically speaking, do you think setting up a pearl script to ping the crap out of their server from a site (hosters server) would have any effect?

  25. MystryBox says:

    The average time …
The average time for an auction of any particular item has huge variance and is useless. That is what you’d expect if auctions end basically randomly as I observed.
